A 2003 Matrix XRS (it was sold in 2002, but as a 2003 model)

Yes. It’s an ‘03, but AFAIK there were no changes between 02-03.

No doubt it’s a good car, but would you have paid nearly $50,000 (original MSRP in 2016 money) for it?

My own. A leftover 2001 Prelude. Thanks to the long production year (production of Preludes ended in October 2001), a few thousand remained unsold into 2002, and a handful even made it to 2003.
Mine was sold in November 2001, FWIW.

At the time, it was known as a sad swan song.
Today, it’s known just as the end of the first era.

I want to say the same thing but oh god how expensive it would be. Although much better than trying to by my own Miata new the same year in terms of depreciation curve.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 11:12 |

they made them until 2003........ in mexico.

Possibly an XK8. A little bit dull for performance, but Jaaaaaag.

True, but I didn’t see as lovingly presented a picture of the convertible in the two minutes or so I spent looking.

Hell, I’ll even say the STS. Why not, its 2002 the market is still good why not get the 300hp and MagneRide?
![]() 06/14/2016 at 11:37 |

Blue with white stripes was only available in 1996 and 1997, criteria was 2002 so I picked the Final Edition, of which only 360 were made.

Weighs more than an integra Type-R
![]() 06/14/2016 at 11:39 |

Would have said an NSX but not a fan of the non pop ups. So if reliability was out the window e39 M5. If not C5 Z06

a stripped down track version of a pedestrian car...unfair comparison on every basis
![]() 06/14/2016 at 11:45 |

I’m gonna be the weirdo here. But I’m always loved the styling of that generation Intrepid. So I’d get an Intrepid R/T.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 11:46 |

I thought that was what the RSX-S was trying to do
![]() 06/14/2016 at 11:46 |

I think you could get a 2003 "Terminator" Cobra in late 2002. I'd take one of those.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 12:05 |

Wellll, I wouldn’t have actually bought any car new... and with the possible exception of the C5 Corvette, I’m having a hard time coming up with a 2002 model that I’d take over the S2000.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 12:05 |

Not the craziest, but in the running for cheapest to maintain!
![]() 06/14/2016 at 12:06 |

The RSX Type-S was equivalent to the Integra GSR, not the Integra Type-R.

Having grown up with the FC, I just can’t love the FD styling. #80s4eva good pick though!

Easy question is easy.
No way I could’ve afforded one, of course. But just LOOK AT IT.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 12:38 |

They made that in 2002?
![]() 06/14/2016 at 12:44 |

Apparently I was incorrect. They made it until MY2000. I am now ashamed.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 12:59 |

because why not v12 benz?
or e39 M5
also implying that i had two pennys to rub together

350Z or EVO VIII in terms of things I could afford today. Probably would go for the EVO back then I would have gone for the 350Z (and did)

I actually like the styling as well. Top guilty pleasure.
Technically there are lots of better cars, but the styling just works for me.

I knew I forgot to choose this.
You win sir.
![]() 06/14/2016 at 19:32 |

Haha, I had a feeling you’d show up! The Legnum VR-4 Estate is not a shabby choice at all though, I’d have one if I had the means!

Plus longitudinal FWD for better handling and less torque steer!
![]() 06/14/2016 at 22:37 |

Ah 2002... the year I turned 16 and got my license. I would build and price many cars in my high school’s computer labs. Among them were Marauder, El Dorado, and 35th Anniversary Camaro SS. I’m sure the Marauder was available in 2002 as a 2003 model year, but I would have to go with 35th Anniversary Camaro. Final answer.
